How it works
Markdown tables are tedious to write by hand and unforgiving about alignment. If the data already exists as CSV, converting it is instant and avoids the miscounted pipe character that breaks the whole table.
Quoting is handled
The parser understands quoted fields, so commas and line breaks inside a cell survive. Pipe characters in the data are escaped, since an unescaped pipe would end the cell early.
The header row
The first row becomes the table header and defines the column count. Rows with fewer values are padded so the table stays rectangular, which Markdown requires.
How the CSV is read
Fields are separated by commas. A field in double quotes may contain commas and line breaks, and a doubled quote ("") inside it stands for one quote mark. Windows and Unix line endings both work, and blank lines are skipped.
What the table looks like
The first row becomes the header row, followed by the --- divider Markdown needs. Every later row is padded or trimmed to the header's number of columns, and any | inside a cell is escaped as \| so it cannot break the table.
CSV to Markdown table — questions
Does it handle quoted commas?
Yes. Quoted fields are parsed properly, so commas inside a cell do not split it.
What if rows have different lengths?
Short rows are padded to match the header, keeping the table valid.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in the page.
