How it works

Converting pages to images is what you need when something will not accept a PDF: a form that wants a photo, a slide deck, a chat app, a website. It is also how you make a thumbnail or preview of a document.

What the quality setting means

The number is dots per inch — how finely each page is rendered. 96 dpi matches a screen and is fine for previews. 150 dpi is the sensible default and stays readable when zoomed. 300 dpi is print quality and produces files several times larger, along with a noticeably longer wait.

JPG or PNG

JPG is much smaller and is right for pages that are mostly photographs. PNG is lossless and renders text and line art noticeably more crisply, at several times the size. For a text document being read on screen, PNG at 150 dpi usually looks better than JPG at 300.

Every page, numbered

Each page becomes its own numbered file so the order is unambiguous. Documents up to 100 pages are handled at a time.

Text stops being text

Once a page is a picture, its text can no longer be selected, searched or copied. That is the nature of the conversion, not a shortcoming — if you want the words, use the text extraction tool instead.

Up to 100 at a time.

No. Pages are rendered in your browser.
