How it works
Cropping a PDF is usually about reclaiming space: a scanned book page surrounded by a black border, a slide deck with huge margins you want gone before printing, an A4 document you want to read on a phone without the white edges eating a third of the screen. This does it to every page at once, without the document going anywhere.
How PDF cropping actually works
A PDF page carries two rectangles: the MediaBox, which is the physical sheet, and the CropBox, which is the part a reader displays. Cropping here sets the CropBox. Every reader honours it, so the page looks trimmed everywhere — on screen and when printed.
Nothing is deleted, and that matters
Because the content outside the CropBox is still in the file, cropping is reversible and the file does not get smaller. That is a genuine advantage if you cropped too tightly. It is also something to be clear about: if your reason for cropping is to hide sensitive text, this is the wrong tool — the text is still there and can be recovered. Redaction is a different job and this site does not do it.
One selection, every page
The area you pick on page one is applied to all pages, measured proportionally, so documents whose pages differ in size or rotation still crop sensibly. That fits the usual case of a scan or an export where every page has the same unwanted margin.
Page rotation is handled
Pages carrying a rotation flag are cropped according to what you actually see in the preview, not the underlying unrotated geometry, so a sideways scan crops the way you would expect.
Crop a PDF — questions
Does cropping make the PDF smaller?
No. Cropping sets the visible area; the content outside it stays in the file. Use the compression tools if size is what you are after.
Can I use this to hide confidential text?
No. Cropped-away content is still present in the file and can be recovered. That needs true redaction, which this tool does not do.
Can I crop each page differently?
Not here — one selection is applied to every page, which covers the common case of a uniform margin or scan border.
Is my document uploaded?
No. It is parsed and rewritten in your browser by pdf-lib. Nothing is transmitted.
