How it works
Most meme makers put their own logo in the corner of whatever you make, which rather defeats the point. This one does not, and it never uploads your picture either. Bring any image, type the captions, download the result.
Classic captions, done properly
Top and bottom text in the heavy condensed face memes have used since the beginning, in white with a thick black outline so it stays readable over any background. Long lines wrap automatically and stay centred; the text size slider covers everything from a quiet subtitle to a caption that dominates the frame.
ALL CAPS, or not
Capitals are the default because that is the convention. Switch to as-typed when the joke depends on the wording being read normally, or when the caption is a sentence rather than a shout.
About the typeface
The captions use whatever heavy condensed font your own system already has — Impact on Windows and macOS, with sensible fallbacks elsewhere. No font is downloaded or redistributed by this site, which is why the result can look very slightly different between devices.
Copyright is your call, not ours
The picture you caption is yours to supply. This tool does not host a library of template images, partly to stay small and fast and partly because most popular templates are stills from films and television that somebody owns. What you make with your own image is between you and whoever holds the rights to it.
Meme generator — questions
Will there be a watermark on my meme?
No. Nothing is added except the text you typed. No logo, no URL, no sign-up.
Is my picture uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is captioned by your own browser and never transmitted.
Are there template images to choose from?
No. Bring your own picture. Popular templates are usually stills from copyrighted films and shows, so this site does not host a library of them.
What format does it save as?
PNG, so the text edges stay crisp. Run it through the image compressor afterwards if you need a smaller file.
