How it works
SVG is a vector format, which means it has no fixed resolution — it is drawn fresh at whatever size it is displayed. That is exactly what you want on the web and exactly what does not work when something needs a real image: a document, a presentation, an app store listing, a service that rejects SVG uploads for security reasons.
Pick the size at conversion time
Because the source is vector, the PNG is drawn at your chosen width rather than being scaled up from something smaller. A 2048 px export is just as crisp as a 256 px one — there is no upscaling and no softness.
Which width to choose
Match the largest size it will be displayed at, then double it for screens with a high pixel density. A logo shown at 200 px wide on a retina display wants a 400 px file.
Transparency is preserved
Anything transparent in the SVG stays transparent in the PNG, which is what you want for logos and icons. If you need a solid background, add one in the source file.
Fonts and external references
The SVG is rendered by your browser in an isolated context, which means it cannot fetch anything from the network — good for security, but it also means a file that references a web font or a remote image will render without them. Convert text to outlines in your design tool first if the type matters.
Convert SVG to PNG — questions
Will the PNG be blurry?
No. The vector is drawn directly at the size you ask for, so there is no upscaling.
Is transparency kept?
Yes. Transparent areas in the SVG stay transparent in the PNG.
Why is my text missing or in the wrong font?
The SVG is rendered without network access, so web fonts and remote images are not loaded. Convert text to outlines before exporting.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The rendering happens in your browser.
