How it works
An animated GIF is still the only moving image that plays everywhere without a player, a codec or a click — in a chat window, a README, an email, a bug report. Making one usually means handing a folder of pictures to a site that adds a watermark. This builds it in the page.
Order and timing
Pictures are used in the order you add them, and the frame rate decides how long each one is shown. Four frames per second means each picture holds for a quarter of a second, which suits a step-by-step sequence. For something that should feel like motion, ten to fifteen is closer to video. The summary tells you how long the finished animation runs.
Pictures that are not all the same shape
Every frame in a GIF has to be the same size, so the first picture sets the proportions and the rest are fitted to it. "Fit inside" keeps the whole of each picture and pads the gaps with white; "fill the frame" scales up and crops the overflow. Fit is safer when the pictures genuinely differ; fill looks better when they are near enough the same shape already.
About GIF's 256 colours
The format allows only 256 colours per frame, which is the one real limitation. The tool builds a palette from the actual frames rather than using a fixed one, and dithers to soften the banding, so screenshots, diagrams and line art come out clean. Photographs — skies and skin tones especially — will band a little no matter what. That is the format, not the tool.
Size
GIF stores every frame, so file size climbs quickly with dimensions and frame count. If the result is too large, the width control is the most effective lever, followed by using fewer frames. A 480-pixel-wide GIF of a dozen frames is usually a comfortable size to send.
GIF maker — questions
How many pictures can I use?
Up to 300. Beyond that the file becomes too large to be useful as a GIF.
Is there a watermark?
No. There is no watermark, no sign-up and no limit on how many you make.
Can I set a different delay for each frame?
Not here — one frame rate applies to the whole animation. Per-frame timing is a niche need that would complicate the controls for everyone else.
Can it loop only once?
Yes. There is a setting for looping forever or playing once.
Are my pictures uploaded?
No. They are read, resized and encoded on your device, and nothing is sent anywhere.
