How it works

Most screenshots need one more thing before they are useful: an arrow pointing at the button, a box round the error, a blur over the account number. Doing that usually means opening an image editor or pasting a screenshot of your work into a website.

The tools

Arrow and box for pointing things out. Ellipse and line for the same job in a softer way. Highlighter for drawing attention to a passage without hiding it. Numbered steps, which count up automatically, for walkthroughs. Text for labels. And blur, for the part of the screenshot that should not be in the screenshot.

Blur here destroys the pixels

The blur tool pixelates the region in the image data itself rather than drawing something over it, so the hidden content cannot be recovered from the saved file. That matters, because covering something with a black rectangle in a document editor famously does not hide it.

Undo and clear

Every mark is kept as a separate object until you save, so undo removes the last one and clear starts again. Nothing is applied to the picture until you press save.

Sizes scale with the picture

Line thickness and text size are set relative to the image, so a mark that looks right on the preview looks right on a 4K screenshot too.

FAQ

Annotate a screenshot — questions

Can the blurred part be recovered?

No. The pixels are destroyed in the image data rather than covered by an overlay.

Is there a watermark?

No. Only what you draw is added.

Can I undo a mark?

Yes. Marks stay separate until you save, so undo and clear both work.

Is my screenshot uploaded?

No. Everything is drawn in your browser.
