How it works

Type once and every style is generated together, so you can pick by eye rather than clicking through a list. What follows is an explanation of what these actually are, because it changes where you should and should not use them.

These are characters, not formatting

Unicode contains separate characters for mathematical bold, italic, script, fraktur, double-struck and monospace letters — they exist for mathematical notation, where a bold X and an italic X mean different things. This tool substitutes those characters for ordinary ones. That is why the result survives copy and paste into places that strip formatting: the boldness is part of the character, not styling applied to it.

Where they break, and it is important

A screen reader will not read these as letters. Depending on the software, mathematical bold text is read character by character, announced as symbols, or skipped entirely — so a profile written in it can be unintelligible to a blind reader. Search engines generally do not match them to ordinary words, and some platforms strip or refuse them. Use them for decoration, never for anything that has to be read, found or understood.

Which styles are safest

Small caps, full width and spaced text degrade most gracefully. The mathematical alphabets are the most widely supported of the decorative ones. Squared and circled letters have the patchiest font coverage and often appear as empty boxes on other people's devices.

Strikethrough and underline

These are done with combining marks — invisible characters that attach to the one before. They work almost everywhere, though a few apps render the spacing oddly.

FAQ

Fancy text generator — questions

Why does my text turn into boxes on someone else's phone?

Their font lacks those characters. Squared and circled styles are the worst affected; the mathematical alphabets are the most widely supported.

Can I use this in a username or bio?

Usually, though some platforms strip or reject the characters. Be aware it makes your name unsearchable and hard for screen readers.

Is it a font?

No. It substitutes different Unicode characters, which is why it survives copy and paste where real formatting would be stripped.

Is it accessible?

No, and that is worth taking seriously. Screen readers often cannot read these characters as letters. Do not use them for anything that must be understood.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Everything is generated in your browser.
