Password generator
Generate strong random passwords in your browser, never over a network.
- Runs in your browser — your text is never sent anywhere
- No sign-up, no quotas, free to use as often as you like
How it works
A password generated on a website is only as private as the connection and the server behind it. These are generated by your own browser's cryptographic random number generator and never travel anywhere, which is the only arrangement that makes sense for a secret.
Length beats complexity
A longer password from a smaller alphabet usually beats a short one full of symbols, and is far easier to store in a manager. The entropy figure shown tells you how many bits of randomness you are actually getting.
Avoiding lookalikes
The third character set drops characters that are easily confused — zero and capital O, one and lowercase l — which matters when a password has to be read aloud or typed from a screen.
Password generator — questions
Are these passwords sent anywhere?
No. They are generated in your browser and never transmitted.
Is this random enough to be safe?
Yes. It uses the browser's cryptographic random source, not the general-purpose one.
How long should a password be?
Twenty characters or more for anything important, stored in a password manager rather than memorised.
